Privacy Policy

1. Who We Are

PocketShadow is an on-device AI assistant developed by Harsh Tiwari. The app runs entirely offline on your Android device.

2. Data We Collect

We collect no data. PocketShadow does not collect, store remotely, transmit, or share any personal information or usage data. Specifically:

• No account or sign-in is required.
• No names, email addresses, or identifiers are ever collected.
• No device identifiers (IMEI, advertising ID, etc.) are accessed or transmitted.
• No usage analytics or behavioral telemetry.
• No crash reporting or diagnostic data is sent anywhere.

3. How Your Conversations Are Stored

Conversation history is stored in a local SQLite database on your device using Android's Room library. This database:

• Never leaves your device.
• Is excluded from Google cloud backup (via android:allowBackup="false" and explicit backup exclusion rules).
• Can be deleted at any time by clearing app data from Android Settings, or by deleting individual chats within the app.

If you choose to disable chat history in Settings, messages are not saved to the database at all.

4. On-Device AI Processing

All AI inference is performed locally on your device using Google's LiteRT-LM runtime and a local Gemma model file. Your messages are processed by the model running on your device's CPU or GPU.

• No message content is ever sent to a remote server or AI API.
• The AI model file itself is stored locally on your device.
• The app does not have the INTERNET permission and is physically incapable of making network calls.

5. No Internet Access

PocketShadow does not declare the android.permission.INTERNET permission in its Android Manifest. The app is technically incapable of sending or receiving any data over a network connection, Wi-Fi, or mobile data.

6. Permissions Used

PocketShadow uses the following Android system permissions:

• VIBRATE — for optional haptic feedback when sending messages. No data is collected.

No location, camera, microphone, contacts, or storage permissions are requested.

7. Third-Party Services

PocketShadow uses the following third-party libraries, all running entirely on-device:

• Google LiteRT-LM — for on-device LLM inference. No data is sent to Google.
• Android Jetpack libraries (Room, Hilt, Compose) — standard Android architecture components. No telemetry.

No third-party analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, or crash reporting SDKs are included.

8. AI-Generated Content Disclaimer

Responses from PocketShadow are generated by a local AI language model (Gemma) and may be inaccurate, incomplete, or inappropriate. Do not rely on PocketShadow for:

• Medical, legal, or financial decisions
• Safety-critical information
• Real-time or current events (the model's knowledge has a cutoff date)

Always verify important information from authoritative sources.

9. Children's Privacy

PocketShadow is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. Since no data is collected from any user, this applies equally to all age groups.

10. Changes to This Policy

If this privacy policy changes materially, we will update the effective date at the top of this page and post the new version here. Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
